The daily life of a girl who loves glitter, gothic and glamour!

A change of pace

So as you may of noticed , my blog posts have been few and far between recently, the thing is when real life ramps up a gear I find I have little time to get everything done let alone write an interesting blog post! I could write a very uninteresting one but who wants that right? I can but apologise and promise to do better!

I have been thinking about writing another blog purely for beauty reviews. I find that they tend to get lost amongst my waffling about cats and Doctor Who!
I buy and try SO many products and I really think that having a separate blog reviewing them would be much better for you readers, what do you think? Would you prefer your body scrub review sans cats?

I hope you are all keeping well, I have a busy week ahead of me, I'm going back to college to study my level 3 beauty therapy plus I seemed to have ended up with lots of social plans!

I hope you have a great week whatever you're up to, and I'll be back very soon with the usual ramblings and reviews x

Another week!

So yet another week has passed by so fast! Madness! I still haven't gotten round to posting those reviews , I'm sorry! I will I promise!

This week has been about staying sane with a 5 year old who really needs school again and rain. We had a couple of nice days but it's been very changeable weather wise, yesterday it poured and poured and there was lots of flash flooding! Today it's subsided and looks normal again :)

I was due to do some gardening yesterday but the rain decided that it was better for me to stay in , warm and cosy with steak and chips and The Hobbit. It was nice to relax.

I'll leave you with a few pictures from my week and I'll get on with those reviews shortly! xx

My new Pai skin care set arrived, review for you soon!

Fun times with PlayDoh!

New socks, I'm feeling ready for autumn

Loving my Body Shop BB cream!

Charity shop bargains

Best body scrub ever! Another review due!

Don't you just wish you were a cat?

Weekend

This weekend has been quite chilled, it was my last couple of days with my son away with his dad for their annual holiday, I'm so glad to have him back with me today, I've missed him terribly and I swear he keeps me sane!

Yesterday we had a day of house cleaning as my cats have gifted me some little visitors!!!! I have been bitten to death and I've had to use horrible chemicals on them and the house! Hopefully we are on top of the problem but it's something that we are going to have to treat continually until the hot weather subsides :( the problem is they mix with other cats as they go outside, if other people don't treat their cats then it just perpetuates, sigh ......

In the evening we treated ourselves to luxury seats at the cinema to see The World's End. It was the first time Marcus had been to this cinema and he enjoyed it, quite different to his one in Sweden! The seats were great, reclining, leather, very comfy :)

The film was good. Not brilliant and I felt it was a little lacking. It had some great parts and Simon Pegg dressed as an old goth and never growing up was both funny and annoying. I feel like they had a great idea for a movie but didn't really follow it through properly. I didn't find myself willing the lead character on, I didn't particularly like him that much, I just didn't find him endearing. I love Simon Pegg with Run Fatboy Run being one of my favourite movies but something just seemed missing. Still it was entertaining and it was nice to have an evening out with my love :)

Today we all went into town with my sons dad and we had my favourite Nandos for lunch. On the way back after I popped into The Body Shop as I needed a new everyday perfume as my Jean Paul Gaultier is running low.

I treated myself to their new Indian Night Jasmine perfume, vineyard peach body lotion and their honey bronze shimmer lip balm!

The perfume is lovely, just the right amount of floral sweet without being headache inducing! I've been having problems with my Black Phoenix Alchemy oils just recently, every time I wear them I get a headache :(

The peach body lotion smells so good, I want to eat it! The body butter was divine but I find those too heavy in summer.

The honey lip balm was an impulse buy. I couldn't resist the hive shaped packaging! It's a lovely peach shimmery lip balm just right for late summer days :)

I hope you've had a great weekend whatever you've been up too x

It's so cute!

Couldn't resist it!

On the lips (excuse crappy photo) it's a beautiful peach with a subtle shimmer

Lime Crime Velvetines

So, a review for you tonight! Just before I start I need to say that this review is my honest opinion, I have not been paid or sponsored, and I bought this product with my own money.

Ok so, we have my long awaited Lime Crime velvetine lipgloss! I've been waiting about 4 months for it to be back in stock, I couldn't decide if I wanted it or not but when I saw it was available it ended up on my doormat this morning!

There are two reliable retailers here that sell Lime Crime , Cocktail Cosmetics and Love Makeup. I've ordered from cocktail before but unfortunately they only had the suedeberry shade in stock, this product comes in two shades, a lighter more orange toned red called suedeberry and a true vampy red called red velvet.

Love makeup were brilliant, I ordered at 12 yesterday and it arrived today so thumbs up to them!

Ok so first the good points.....

Packaging: oh my , lime crime could pretty much sell me anything with this packaging! From the pretty box to the frosted plastic tube , it looks fab!

Colour: loved it, was a great tone red for me , perhaps more an evening wear or shoot lipstick though

Wear:  yes it's long wearing, in fact I had to use my lip scrub from lush to remove it!

Other: it smells great like vanilla custard! It's also vegan and cruelty free.

And the bad.......

Ok so my biggest problem was with the consistency and application. It has a sponge wand applicator which is unfortunately inadequate for the product. If you do buy it, use a lip brush. You need to be exact with the application because once it's on , it's hard to get off plus it gets EVERYWHERE. This is not a product you want to apply without a mirror handy. It also has quite an oily consistency, and there was a small amount of oil that collected in the cap which leaked out whenever you turned the wand upside down. I wouldn't trust it not to leak out in my bag.

I also found it hard to get a uniform opaque application , this might be better with a brush, but when you press your lips together it removes the layer of product, so therefore you need to apply quite a thick layer which makes it a very full on look.

It's also £11.50 and the stock availability seems very hit and miss.

So all in all, will I use it? Yes. Would I buy it again? No. I much preferred my Sleek pout paint, which isn't matt, but gives a similar look for about £5.

Swatch on lips, love the colour and it's very matte

You can see here that it's quite difficult to get a good application, it bleeds around the edges and gets everywhere.

Love the packaging!

The wand, you can see that product goes all the way up

You can see the oil collecting here in the cap, very annoying!

I'm going to wear this on my next shoot, will be interested to see how this turns out under flash.

Have you tried it yet? Leave me a comment and let me know what you think! Xx

Sov Gott!

Another day, another dollar! Busy busy again and I'm just off to bed but first a  quick post to say Hi! I've got loads of things to show you all, the charity shop gods have been exceptionally kind to me these last weeks! I'll do a separate longer post to show you in more detail tomorrow!

I've finally ordered my Lime Crime velvetines lipgloss after waiting for about 4 months! It was very frustrating seeing it pop up in my Pinterest feeds! By the way , do follow me there for pretty things!

I also have a few product reviews for you as well, some nice make up plus a few facial products :) I'm going to see The World's End tomorrow with Marcus so they'll be a review of that too :)

Until then I bid you farewell, sleep well, smoke me a kipper, I'll be home for breakfast!

The much awaited Lime Crime Velvetine!

Lush Twilight Dupe!

If any of you are Lush fans you may have had their limited edition Twilight shower gel this year. I did and I loved it, it smelled just like the bath bomb of the same name but more intense!

Sadly, it's no longer available and I have lamented the loss of the malted sweet lavender scent ever since :(

But fear not! For I have found a close second! Treacle Moon have bought out a new bath and shower gel called Her Lavender Story and it smells almost identical! It's also £4 for a huge bottle and not limited edition , yay!

Treacle Moon are a cruelty free UK based company so ticks a few ethical boxes.
Theres always a verse on the front of the bottle, this one reads....." She walked by a meadow of deliciously scented blues and imagined mythical gods and fair maidens seduced by the magical lavender flower. Such tranquil, fragrant peace....."

The only thing I've found is that the fragrance isn't quite as intense as the Lush one but I can live with that! I'm hoping they will bring out a hand soap in this at some point too!

Treacle Moon products are available at Tesco

Holiday and Birthday

So it was my 32nd birthday this week. I don't feel 32, hopefully I don't look it either! My birthday is usually low key and even more so this year as we were actually travelling back from a holiday in Devon. 10 hours in the car was not fun, we were going to see Stonehenge on the way home but by that point we were all pretty fed up, another time perhaps!

It was a great break and my son enjoyed himself, it was nice for Marcus to see a different part of England as well! It's not hugely different from where we live as we are fortunate to live in a pretty rural area, but it's always nice to see somewhere new.

We stayed in Tavistock, near the Cornwall border, and the place we stayed was the old railway station that had been converted into holiday cottages. We stayed in the old ticketing hall, it still had the original ticket hatch and platform out back. It was built in the 1880's so it had a late victorian feel to it. The town was very pretty although we ran out of time to explore a huge amount of it.

Our days were filled with beaches, ice cream , fish and chips and steam railways :)

I celebrated birthday the following day with Nandos, cake and presents. I got a spa day for The Sanctuary Spa in London, Game of Thrones book, Brian Cox book (you should check him out if you haven't already, he makes science completely understandable and a bit cool ;) Hello Kitty pretties and various bits and pieces!

I'll leave you with some pictures!

It's not a holiday picnic without Mr Kiplings French Fancie cakes!

And the band played on

Phew, that was a long break from blogging! Sometimes there just isn't any time in the day for anything other than the daily grind. Time slips so easily through your fingers it seems....

Some news then, first we are moving. Just locally but a much bigger house, the space is very much needed and I'll be able to work from home which is something I've wanted for a long time. My son will be going to a much better school and it's also closer to work for Marcus. I'll be sure to post pictures when we are in!

Second we had the opportunity to go to Doctor Who at the Proms. For those who don't know the Proms are a series of classical concerts arranged by the BBC every summer at The Royal Albert Hall. They have performed the music from Doctor Who every other year since 2008 with a small gap to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the series this year.

We were very lucky to get tickets, we waiting nearly three hours on an online ticket queue and minutes after we bought ours they sold out.

The day of the concert was SUPER hot. London was baking in the heat, the train and tube journeys weren't pleasant but we were too excited to worry. The Royal Albert Hall is a great venue and from our seats we could see everything really well. The concert was amazing! Brilliant musicians and performers including Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman and all manner of creatures including my favourites Sontaran and Ood! The female soprano soloist had a voice which actually moved me to tears the moment she started singing. It's an experience ill remember for a long time

If you don't already watch Doctor Who I highly recommend it. It really tickles the imagination, British drama, sci fi, fantasy and even a little gothic steampunk all rolled into one :) The costumes for the creatures are fantastic and it attracts some great actors, and you find yourself catapulted into the Doctors world.

I took a few pictures from the concert , some are blurry due to the distance but I hope you get the idea. The actors and costumed performers actually moved throughout the audience, Cyber men stomped, Darleks seemed to float and vampire princesses hissed! You can find some of the music On YouTube under Doctor Who proms 2013
